Lee Godie

Lee Godie (1908–1994) was a self-taught American artist who became a fixture on the steps of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she sold her drawings and paintings directly to passersby. Known for her bold portraits, city scenes, and invented alter ego “Miss Frenchy,” Godie worked with felt-tip pens, watercolor, and photography to create a vivid personal world. Once overlooked by the art establishment, she is now recognized as a major figure in outsider and Chicago self-taught art.
